Q Why is there a fee for submitting poems?
A We welcome anyone to create an account on our site to
publish 3 poems for no charge. Membership fees are required for posting
additional poems.They also go
toward new features, contests, storage, and other costs to support and improve
the value of our website. If you prefer to pay membership fees by check or money order: make payable to ilovepoetry Inc, and mail it to: ilovepoetry.com, PO BOX 2682, Glenview IL 60025. Make sure to include your name and email address.
Q How does the poem rating system work?
A At the bottom of every poem is a link called "Rate this poem." A reader has five options to select from poor(6), fair(7), average(8), above average(9), and outstanding(10).
You must login to view the rating on your poem. If a person has rated your poem, you will see under the poem title "average rating of (and some number)." That number is the average rating by viewers of your poem based upon the scale in the previous paragraph. For example, if
three people gave the following ratings: Poor=6, Above average=9, Above average=9, the average rating would be an 8 for that particular poem.
Q Could someone
steal my poem?
A Yes and no. Copyright laws protect the poems you submit
to us as long as they are your original work. We also do our best to protect
your rights by keeping track of the dates your poems were submitted and putting
a copyright notice after the poems. However, to avoid any problem, we strongly
recommend that you register your work with the U.S. Copyright Office. For an
inexpensive and simple way to have your work protected by the U.S. Copyright
Office, click here.
Q How do I enter my poems into your contests?
A First, you must
register with us. Then we will
notify you via email each time a new contest is offered. For complete details on how to enter one of our contests, go to our Poetry Contest Page by clicking here.
